Alt J Pretty Much Confirm They Are Splendour’s Mystery Band, Surprises Nobody

Riddle me this,’ Splendour in the Grass‘ marketing team cackled gleefully when they announced the lineup for their 2013 festival will contain a “mystery band” (complete with the alt+j triangle in place of the ‘a’). “They’ll never figure that one out,” they shrieked, patting themselves on the back for their antics that would dumbfound even the craftiest of Sherlocks.

Turns out it took everyone all of two seconds to speculate that the mystery act was Aussie favourite Alt J, due to their conveniently timed Australian shows the days after the festival, and the fact that in their recent Reddit AMA, they responded with a 🙂 to a question asking if the band would be playing at Splendour. Emoticons don’t lie, Splendour.

And in the not-so-mysterious speculation, Alt J yesterday tweeted this, asking about this weekend’s outlook in Byron:

Hm. You utter sleuths, Alt J, you. We won’t know until this weekend if the mystery act really is Alt J, but if another band is revealed instead, it’s safe to say there will be genuine shock. Perhaps the sly dudes from Alt J have been in on the troll all along; their obvious clue-dropping has been a farce and we’ll all get elaborately triangle’d come Saturday. Or maybe nobody actually cares, because Frank Ocean will be spreading his aura about the festival all weekend and literally nothing else matters.
