A Pet Dog Was Taken By A Shark At An Off-Leash Sydney Beach

Well, this is absolutely not the kind of news I wanted to bring to you today.

Swimmers around Kurnell Beach in Sydney‘s south have been warned not to enter the water after a pet dog was reportedly taken by a shark while it swum in shallow water close to the shore. It is believed the culprit was a bull shark, which are definitely known to hang around beaches in the area.
The beach in question is an off-leash area where dogs are allowed to roam and swim freely.
Sutherland Shire Council issued a statement confirming that council lifeguards had informed swimmers in the area to avoid the water due to the incident:

NSW Department of Primary Industries advises people to avoid swimming or surfing when it is dark or during twilight hours and encourages the use of the SharkSmart app, which has safety tips for swimmers, surfers, divers, snorkelers and spearfishers.

There have been a number of reports of shark sightings in the Kurnell / Botany Bay area of late.

We’ll keep you posted as more info emerges.
