An Ohio nightclub shooting has claimed the lives of at least one person, and injured 15 others, in the worst US mass shooting of 2017.
Gunfire erupted inside Cameo, a Cincinnati club – which local police have said has a history of gun violence – after a dispute allegedly broke out among several men.
Police started receiving calls of gunshots at around 1:30am, with about 200 people partying inside at the time.
“What we know at this point in the investigation is that several local men got into some type of dispute inside the bar, and it escalated into shots being fired from several individuals,” said Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac.
A man who was inside the club at the time of the shooting told the Cincinnati Enquirer he saw a “big brawl” before he heard at least 20 shots being fired.
Cameo had paid for four off-duty police officers to patrol the parking lot and they were first to respond to the shooting.
That included failed attempts to revive the deceased, who has been identified as 27-year-old O’Bryan Spikes.

It’s feared the death toll may still rise, with one of the wounded in an “extremely critical condition.”

Police are yet to take any suspects into custody, though they’re continuing to interview the dozens of witnesses.
Of the 71 mass shootings the US has seen in 2017 alone, this is the worst in terms of total number of victims.
