Would-Be Wooden Spooners Adelaide United Win 2nd A-League Premiership

It almost defies belief, but then again, sports were made for this kind of thing.

After finding themselves dead last after eight rounds of the 2015/2016 A-League season, Adelaide United have taken the Premier’s Plate for the first time since the A-League’s opening season in 2005/2006.

After dispatching Melbourne City 0 – 2 last night, United was relying on Melbourne Victory to hold second-place Brisbane Roar to a draw or better; thanks to heroics from Victory keeper Lawrence Thomas, tonight’s game ran out as a 0 – 0 tie.

Of course, this is just the end of a (dream-like) regular season; with their top-placed league finish, Adelaide will go into the post-season with a guaranteed home grand final.

To put the team’s run into perspective, it took an ungodly 14-match undefeated streak to claw their way to the top of the table. Fair effort, lads.
