WATCH: Kyle Chalmers’ Too-Cute Nan & Pop Gush About Their “Golden Boy”

Let’s just call it now: Olympic swimming successes are officially the most adorable kind.

After China’s Fu Yuanhhui discovered she’d won herself a bronze medal after leaving the pool, it was Australia’s very own instant superstar Kyle Chalmers who handled today’s cuteness quotient.

That being said, it wasn’t just him contributing to the day’s Aww Factor

Footage of the 18-year-old’s high school classmates in Adelaide going ballistic over his victory made us feel like the 100m freestyle winner was our own mate, and video of his grandparents Malcolm and Julie celebrating turned all of us into a beaming extended family.

Fortunately for a nation in desperate need of exceedingly cute celebrations, The Project managed to speak to the pair of ’em. Predictably, they are both still absolutely stoked.

Talking about that kiss-cam vision, Malcolm said “normally I’m a little settled wherever I’ve been. Following him I’ve always footage of me, but today I got away from it.

I was absolutely over the moon, and did I go for it.”
While ol’ mate Malc handled much of the backstory of his athletic prowess, including his strong footballing family history, it was Julie who doled out the banter.
Not only did the champ claim sole responsibility for her grandson’s success, she also coddled Kyle to perfection by outright banning him from playing AFL on account of its rough-and-tumble nature.

Oh, her nickname for the gold medalist is worth a mention, too:

Keep track of this pair come Tokyo 2020. Actually, scrap that: make proud grandparenting an official Olympic event. It’d be an easy way to bump up our medal count.
