WATCH: Dogs Coach Gifts Winner’s Medal To Injured Skipper Bob Murphy

Let’s just contextualise this footage. Imagine you’ve overseen the rise and rise of a footy team beset by injuries all season. Imagine you’ve seen ’em ascend through the ranks, crack the finals, and finally land a berth in the big show.

Imagine you’ve just seen your squad, the obvious underdogs, win the bloody thing, clinching its first premiership flag in 62 years. Imagine finally wearing that medal around your neck, and speaking before tens of thousands of ecstatic punters.

Then. Then. Imagine still having the presence of mind and humility to honour your team’s injured captain, while 100% of the spotlight is still directly on you.

That’s what Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge managed to do when he called club captain Bob Murphy onto the stage, after seeing the player watch the entire Grand Final from the sidelines:

Murphy had stated before the match that “there are moments of utter despair” when he thinks about the boys running out without him.

So, as if Australia wasn’t already around this already behind this outfit, Beveridge summoned Murphy to hoist the Premiership Cup alongside acting skipper Easton Wood.

We hope the MCG’s groundskeepers were prepared for extra moisture, ’cause we’re 100% certain extra tears would’ve been shed.
