Tiger Woods Predicted World Domination As A 14-year-old

In 1990, Transworld Sport interviewed Tiger Woods. Unlike most 14-year-old-boys, Tiger was confident, well spoken, and startlingly mature. Essentially he was the furthest removed example from the the typical girl-crazed teen – that would come later.

Speaking candidly about the racism within golfing community, his self-anticipated rise to the top, and how his achievements, in relation to his mixed heritage, would surpass those of his idol Jack Nicklaus, Woods predicted that he would have the global star power to rival that of Michael Jordan.

The best moment of the piece belongs to Woods’ number 1 fan , his dad Earl who assures us that “he can’t lose unless he doesn’t win.” Sure it makes a little bit more sense in the context of the interview but it’s an excellent quote nonetheless. We can’t help but wonder, given that his meteoric rise was seen as an inevitability within camp Woods, whether his unwavering self confidence stole away from the enjoyment and appreciation for his achievements which ultimately lead to a golf club to the side of the face? Or perhaps he would have been the same porn-star-enamored sex-crazed adulterer if he was scamming welfare and pulling beers at a dive bar downtown.

Either way, it’s pretty interesting.
