This Is What Happens To Your Face When You Take A Record Number Of UFC Punches

Take the above photo as a point of reference for how Mark Hunt looked before he stepped inside the octagon with Stipe Miocic at UFC Fight Night 65, which took place last night at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Hunt vs Miocic was billed as the top bout for the card – a rare UFC promoted event taking place in Australia. But the reality of the bout was fairly stark.
Miocic relentlessly pounded Hunt, who despite never really being in the fight at any meaningful stage, still battled grimly on into depths of round number five.
In fact, Hunt’s ability to absorb inhuman amounts of punishment saw Miocic shatter the all-time UFC striking record. With a final landed punches of tally of a staggering 361, Miocic eclipsed the previous high-water mark of 355 set by the legendary Royce Gracie way back at UFC 5. The tally also obliterates the modern-era record of 320 set by Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 against Anderson Silva.
But whilst Hunt physically was able to stand up for nearly 5 complete rounds whilst absorbing that ungodly level of punishment, his body and face were still susceptible to things like bruising, swelling, bleeding and the like.
As a result, Hunt’s face was rendered borderline unrecognisable following the fight, and The Immovable Kiwi shared a photo of it along with messages of congratulations for Miocic. The scientific term for how his face looks is “a complete mess.”
