Sport’s not for everyone, and that’s ok. You don’t have to go off about Sportsball every time the Big Footy Days on the calendar arrive, though. There’s other stuff to distract the eye. Like the fact that today also happens to be the most important day on the avian calendar: Superb Owl day.
Yes, while all of America and a fair bit of the globe is stuck into the thus-far uninspiring contest between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams in this year’s Super Bowl, fans of birds and word play are shifting that B across the space to pay tribute to the most Superb Owls of the past 12 months.
The annual hashtag-hijacking observance is back once again, and like every year before it it is delivering the winged goods.
Run your goddamned eyes over these magnificent hooting bastards.

Meet the spectacled owl, easily recognized by its bright yellow eyes and white, feathery eyebrow. Seen here in its portrait for the Photo Ark, by National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore https://t.co/9QmqCRyPYF pic.twitter.com/pMKS2nT3zh

None of those, however, measure up to what might be the most superb owl of all. The creme de la creme. The hoot of all hoots.
This fancy binch.
I saw this hashtag and wanted to share this superb owl!#SuperbOwl pic.twitter.com/PRGpXgUmB9

SHE’S WEARING A FANCY LITTLE HAT.
Imagine trying to convince anyone that there are owls more superb than that one. Let alone me, who is writing this article and will not, under any circumstances, be engaging with any of the comments.
Bloody magnificent birds, owls. Really incredible stuff.
