Scott Watters Sacked As St Kilda Coach

Shock for Saints fans today as Scott Watters has been unexpectedly removed from the head coaching position for the St Kilda AFL club. Watters led the team through a tumultuous two years since taking the Saints reigns from Ross Lyons in 2012, with St Kilda finishing ninth overall in the 2012 season, and a dismal sixteenth on the ladder at the end of this year’s home and away season.

The sacking appears to have come as a surprise to Watters, who recently told SEN radio “When a president sits with you and says ‘we see you as a long term coach’, that’s enough for me. I’ll get on with work and with business,” however rumours of disharmony and friction within the club have circulated for some time.

St Kilda president Peter Summers is yet to address the media, and the ailing club has made no public comment about who is likely to take over from Watters. Mark Williams, who coached Port Adelaide to their 2004 premiership win and who is currently serving as an assistant coach to Damien Hardwick at the Richmond Tigers, is one likely candidate.
