Richie Benaud Announces He Has Skin Cancer

Richie Benaud, the voice of Australian cricket, has today announced he has skin cancer.

The Australian cricketing, style and broadcasting legend is currently undergoing radiation therapy and made the announcement today at the Sydney Cricket Ground during Nine’s unveiling of its summer cricket program.
Benaud is receiving treatment for skin cancer on his forehead and the top of his head.

“I’m coping with it very well – the doctors are pleased,” Benaud said. “I’m going along slowly. The cancers need to be treated.”

The fifty shades of distinguished grey urged all Australians to slip, slop and slap.
“I recommend to everyone they wear protection on their heads. Eighty-four-year olds don’t seem to mend as well as they used to,” he said. “When I was a kid, we never ever wore a cap. I wish I had. You live and learn as you go along.”

The 84 year old commentary veteran has been absent from the box since sustaining a broken sternum as well as chest and shoulder injuries after crashing his car thirteen months ago.

Get well soon, Richie.
