Missy Higgins’ Comeback Tour Continues With A Gig At The AFLW Grand Final

This Saturday marks the second-ever AFLW Grand Final, with this year’s Premiership decider set to be contested between the Western Bulldogs and the Brisbane Lions. And to add to the Grand Final flavour, the league has unveiled who they’ve pegged to provide pre-game entertainment at the stadium: Missy Higgins.

Higgins has been hard at work on the road, touring across Australia in support of Ed Sheeran‘s enormous stadium tour. But before she heads home to prepare for the release of her fifth studio album Solastalgia in April, the 34-year-old is heading to IKON Park this weekend to sing a few tunes before the big game.

Higgins, a Melburnian, grew up loving her footy, and spoke to AFL.com.au of her excitement about performing before the game.

I grew up as a huge footy fan, going to matches all the time, and at one stage I was even the only girl in my primary school footy team, so I’m super-excited and honoured to be playing the AFLW Grand Final.

Despite the fact that she’s a devout Geelong Cats fan, Higgins asserted she wouldn’t be picking a favourite between the competing sides come Saturday.

Higgins is set to perform her latest single Futon Couch, as well as breakthrough single Scar prior to the game on Saturday.

The ladder-leading Bulldogs and the second-placed Lions will clash for the 2018 AFLW Premiership this Saturday afternoon at IKON Park in Carlton; the first AFLW Grand Final to be held in Melbourne after Brisbane scored hosting honours last season.

The game is scheduled to begin at 12:35pm. Entry to the stadium is free, with gates opening at 11:00am for Bulldogs and Lions AFLW members, and 11:30am for members of the general public.

A sellout crowd of over 20,000 people is expected.

The game will be broadcast live on Seven‘s main channel and its HD counterpart (good), as well as streamed live on the AFLW app, with broadcast coverage beginning from 11:30am.
