Sometimes in sport, the chips just fall your way.
For the Brisbane Lions to score a berth in this year’s AFLW Grand Final a whole mess of things had to go their way over the course of the final Round of the regular season:
Firstly, the Lions themselves had to not only beat, but wallop the highly-fancied GWS Giants. That happened.
After that, the side had to rely on a string of other results falling their way.
Melbourne had to either lose to, or only narrowly beat, the ladder-leading Western Bulldogs. The Dogs won.
Then on Sunday, in a win-and-in situation, Adelaide had to find some way of losing to the struggling Collingwood Magpies.
Sure enough, a way was found.
With the sounding of yesterday’s final siren, the Brisbane Lions were officially confirmed as a qualifier for this year’s Grand Final, with the side set to take on the Bulldogs in Melbourne this coming weekend.
The Lions players? They were a bit bloody stoked on it.

The Lions will attempt to avenge last year’s heartbreaking Grand Final loss this Saturday at IKON Park in Melbourne’s inner-north, with an expected sell-out crowd of 20,000+ set to take over the stadium for the big dance.
The game is scheduled to begin at 12:35pm AEDT, which is absurdly early for a Grand Final, but that’s another story for another time.
