On today’s episode of ‘White Males Teach Black Females About Racism”: the chucklefucks who decided it’d be an absolutely stellar idea to have a crack at Aussie basketball star Liz Cambage for having the gall to call out a teammate’s blackface.
Unbelievably – or, perhaps, too believably – after she took issue with fellow Opal Alice Kunek for sporting the facepaint for a Kanye West costume, Cambage has been fielding commentary from experts in the field of being a woman of colour: white dudes.
For the record, here’s the original post that spurred Cambage to say she “has issues with some Basketball Australia teammates”:
I’m am so shocked and disturbed to see this behavior from someone I’m meant to call a “teammate” pic.twitter.com/Rz9Hp33oCs

But the backlash to her backlash? Mind-boggling. Observe:
I have learnt so much from white males today on racism, thanks so much guys X pic.twitter.com/H5ERb87YW3

The abuse came thick and fast from elsewhere too, with Cambage absolutely not caring about flashing any names.

Most recently, the centre even spotted former a former player supporting the sentiments.
sad to see Natalie Porter ex @AussieOpals “liking” these tweets @NPIREaustralia pic.twitter.com/ilAcDNDCrR

The statements from Cambage, whose father is Nigerian, come less than a month after a couple of numpties in Ballarat donned head-to-toe black paint in a woefully misguided attempt at Indigenous “costumes”; that incident also drew ire from Thelma Plum and Briggs.
The latter has stepped out about this one, too.
How to fuck up:1. Do dumb Racist thing.2. Post it online3. Fake Apology 4. Stephanie Rice tells you it’s ok because she’s seen it once before too.

As for Cambage’s final response to the naysayers? Well, what better way to kiss off the ignorant than by spinning the greatest track made by a strong black female for strong black females that’s been cooked up in yonks.
TBH I can’t really hear most of these tweets, I’ve got Formation playing too loud ????????????
