The Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL club have withdrawn an offer worth “$1.2 million a year over six years” to entice Lance “Buddy” Franklin to join the team, tweeting the news and issuing a statement on their website which indicated the Hawthorn star “intended to accept an offer from the Sydney Swans.” The Swans’ offer is allegedly in the ballpark of $7 million over five seasons, most of which Buddy is expected to spend on sleeve tattoos.

Franklin shone in Hawthorn’s Grand Final victory over Fremantle last weekend, and was a member of the squad who lost to Sydney in the Grand Final of 2012. His contract with Hawthorn expired after the 2013 season. GWS’ withdrawn offer brings to mind the Frankl-Instagram incident of earlier this year, where a hacker took control of Buddy’s Instagram account and posted images and comments suggesting that Buddy was jumping ship to join the Giants, which his management denied at the time.
