Donald Sterling, the wealthy racist whose dogged persistence at being just the ultimate slimeball has captivated the world, has informed the NBA that he won’t pay his $2.5 million fine or accept his lifetime ban from the sport.
Catch-up: Mr Sterling was issued the ban and fine after recordings of him making racist comments were made public. Mr Sterling first denied having done so, then admitted it, then blamed himself for not paying off the mistress who leaked the tape, then claimed he’d only made the comments to get her into his bed, then blamed her for baiting him, before apologising on CNN while somehow also implying that African Americans don’t give back to the community and disparaging former LA Lakers great Magic Johnson for having AIDS:

Now he’s doubled down on his douchebag quotient by having his lawyer issue a letter to the NBA saying he doesn’t deserve “any punishment at all” for his comments and threatening to sue if either the ban or fine are enforced.
NBA owners will soon vote on whether to forcefully remove the Clippers from Sterling’s ownership. At least three quarters of the 30 team owners must vote in favor of stripping Sterling’s ownership from him in order for it to happen.
