Brisbane Lions Sack Coach Justin Leppitsch Because Fuck It, Why Not

WELP. You can’t say you didn’t see this one coming.
The Brisbane Lions utterly atrocious 2016 AFL Season is officially over, with the club board putting a firm full stop on 23 long weeks of pain by sacking embattled head coach Justin Leppitsch.
Leppitsch, who took the reins of the club at the start of the 2014 season after the sacking of favourite son Michael Voss, has had just as much trouble at the helm of the struggling club as his predecessor, amassing a pretty dismal coaching record of just 14 wins from 66 total games.
The club has suffered through a raft of issues, both on-field and off, that was simply beyond Leppitsch’s control; poor club culture has lead to an exodus of talented young recruits, crumbling and outdated facilities haven’t endeared the club to potential players as a destination team, and board issues have repeatedly caused indecision that has had flow-on effects to the club’s football department.
Regardless, the Lions have been listless at the best of times during Leppitsch’s tenure, and ultimately that buck always stops with the head coach’s chair.
Lepptisch’s fate was sealed at a meeting with the club board this morning, during which Leppitsch reportedly made an “impressive” pitch to retain his job. But ultimately the club decided that cleaning house, once again, was in the best interests for the team moving forward.
The Lions managed to avoid the wooden spoon by the barest of margins in yesterday’s final game of the season, sinking to a 58-point thumping at the hands of St Kilda.
The club will begin the search for a new coach immediately, as fans and media alike come to grips with the decision.
And when we say “come to grips” we mean “immediately turn to shitty, insensitive memes” because football jokes are a cesspool of filth from which there is very little hope.

Ya couldn’t even wait 30 minutes before devolving into weak crap like this? Bloody hell.

The AFL is on a week’s break before the AFL Finals Series commences on Thursday, September 8th.
