In year of continual WTF’s at Channel 10, the the rudderless station has attempted to right its course with savage cuts to the news department with former Sports Tonight, Hoops, and current News At 5 co-anchor Bill Woods the highest profile sacking.
Woods’ sacking has sparked an outpouring of nostalgia from disappointed fans who have endured plenty of
disappointments this year. Everybody Dance Now was a kick in the guts, Don’t Tell The Bride hurt the eyes, and the Shire was, well… fuck!? But it looks as though the sacking of the popular host has pushed the ailing station past the point of forgiveness for many viewers.
After 24 years with the network, Woods will be best remembered as an all-rounder covering everything from sailing, to rugby, to motorsport as well as regular news.
“What the future holds? I have no idea,” Woods said. “First of all I am still under contract until November 30 and as a man of my word I will finish what I started 24 years ago.”
“To be honest I have been very humbled in the past 24 hours by some of the phone calls, emails and messages I have received from some of the people I have met over the years … some I haven’t seen or heard from in a very long time. The overwhelming sentiment is generally, ‘you’ll be fine’, which is really nice to hear.”
