Ball Boy Heroically Takes A Kick In The Guts For His Team

Charlie Morgan, you are a an inspiration to biased ball-boys everywhere. And after copping a swift right boot to his stomach from Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, Morgan is destined to go down as a folk hero in his home town of Swansea after he inadvertently helped his team progress to their first major final in over 100 years.

As his Twitter suggests, Morgan was just your average cider chugging, football-mad Welsh teen. Today he is much more.

With ten minutes remaining and the scores locked at 0-0, Swansea only needed to hold out Chelsea to progress through to the English League Cup final after taking an aggregated 2-0 lead into the match after they defeated Chelsea two weeks prior in the first leg of their semi-final. With time slipping from the star studded Blues, the ball bounced over the sideline and Morgan took his cue and flopped on the ball. Denying Chelsea the opportunity for a quick restart and the remote possibility of developing any goal flurry inducing momentum, Morgan had achieved his goal but the best was yet to come.

There was no fooling the wily Belgian, with Hazard all too awake to Morgan’s deliberate time wasting. In a hotheaded moment, Hazard buried his boot into Morgan’s guts. It worked as Morgan instantly rolled off the ball in pain but Hazard was consequently given his marching orders. Down to 10 men, Chelsea were done.

Morgan’s pre-game Tweet indicates he was well aware of is role in the match

Swansea’s place in the final caps off a remarkable 25-year rebuilding phase as they ascended from the English fourth division through to the Premier League and now into the English Cup Final. Unfortunately they wont enjoy sentimental favoritism for the Feb 24th final at Wembley. That honor will go to fourth tier minnows Bradford who are the first team from England’s lowest professional league to make the final in 51 years.

Should Swansea prevail, Morgan won’t receive his own parade though he probably should. Legend.
