Yr Fave Sad Boy Sufjan Stevens Has New Music Out For Pride Month

Friends, today is but a holy day.

The angels have looked down at us and the world we live in and offered a humble gift in an effort to help raise our heads and our hearts in these troubling times.

That’s right: new Sufjan Stevens tunes are out today.

Stevens is releasing two new songs in celebration of Pride Month, both of which will be available on a limited edition 7″ vinyl on June 28 via his label, Asthmatic Kitty.

The songs, “Love Yourself” and “With My Whole Heart” sound as if the singer-songwriter is returning to a sound reminiscent of 2010’s “Age of Adz.

Stevens says “With My Whole Heart” is a new song written as a challenge to create an “upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety, or self-deprecation.” Both tracks are available on streaming services as of today.

The singer’s last release, 2015’s “Carrie & Lowell” (and an extended mixtape of unreleased tracks cut from the album) had Stevens going back to basics, with most songs highlighting his whispered vocals and folk roots. Now, it sounds as if Stevens is trying out the electronica again.

A portion of the proceeds from the project will go towards two American organisations that provide support for LGBTQ and homeless kids – the Ali Forney Center in New York and the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit.

A Pride T-shirt, designed by Stevens, is also available for purchase here.
