Woolies Pledges To Stop Giving Out Plastic Bags Across Oz By Mid-2018

In a huge win for fans of not murdering sea-life, Australian supermarket mega-chain Woolworths has today announced that all stores across the country will phase out single-use plastic bags, starting pretty much now and being completed by mid next year.

Us RN.
Plastic bags, need we remind you, suck a fat one and Australia has been trailing the world for years when it comes to eradicating the 4 billion or so placcy bags we send to landfill each year, with only SA, TAS & the ACT having had the balls to ban ’em entirely.
Speaking of the decision Woolies CEO Brad Banducci touched on how people power in the form of customer feedback was a huge factor behind the change:

“We’ve been looking at the feedback we get back from our customers as well as the impact on the environment, and we think it’s an incredibly important thing to do,”

As the roll-out takes place over the next 12 months, Woolies will slowly replace the single-use turtle-murdering bags with thicker, reusable ones for 15c a pop as well as an increased range of those green hessian ones.

The phasing out of placcy bags will also impact Woolworths Group owned outlets Big W and BWS bottle-os.
Onya Woolies you literal, and now metaphorically, green motherfuckers! Your move, Coles/Australian governments.
