In encouraging news for Damien Hirst’s bank account, Alberto Giacometti’s “Walking Man I”, a bronze sculpture valued at between $19.2 million and $28.8 million fetched a staggering $104.3 million at a Sotheby’s auction yesterday.

Sold to an unidentified telephone bidder, “Walking Man I” is now the most expensive piece of art ever sold at auction displacing Picasso’s 1905 painting “Boy With a Pipe (The Young Apprentice)” which sold for $104.1 million in 2004.
