Western Syd Kebab Shop Goes Up In Smoke After Employee Pops Out For A Dart

This morning a fire tore through a kebab shop in Auburn in Sydney‘s west.
The fire is thought to have broken out in the kitchen of the newly renovated M Brothers Turkish Kebabs and Pizza at about 7am, spreading quickly through the ground floor and up to the the second storey.
An employee apparently put some oil into the deep fryer, before popping outside for a ciggie. When he returned, the fryer was on fire, so he called emergency services. Smart.

While the fire did not reach adjoining buildings, damage to the shop and nearby premises, including an athletics store, was described by Fire & Rescue NSW as “severe“:
This was a third alarm fire, the scope of the fire is fairly considerable.
We had ten trucks on the scene at one stage, and the area was given the all clear just after 8am.
The fire was contained to the food shop but there was heat and smoke damage to adjoining premises.”
Locals were said to have rushed into the building to help people living above the shops. One person self-evacuated.
The blaze was extinguished, but firies remained to clear the scene and ventilate neighbouring buildings.
Only one person needed to be assessed by paramedics, and no injuries were reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
