Watch Year 12’s React To Their ATAR

Produced in association with Deakin University.

Depending on the precision with which you understood the concept of journeys and/or how much time you spent hitting the books, finding out your ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) can either function as one of the most satisfying experiences of young adulthood or a terrifying hurdle on the road to disappointment town.

Either way, staring into the strange abyss of the legion versions of your future life is a nerve-wracking experience, unless of course it’s happening to someone else.

With that in mind, Deakin University had the presence of mind to capture the anxiety inducing experience on camera through some recent Year 12 graduates who agreed to be filmed as they reacted to their ATAR.

From delirious satisfaction to visceral disappointment (see above) and the most incredulous faces we’ve seen since Chloe side-eyes, their reactions (as well as those of their proud-as-heck parents) truly are revealing.
Welcome to adulthood you guys! It’s all downhill from here.
