WATCH: Turnbull Reckons The Plebiscite Will Be Here By Next Year… Maybe

The same-sex plebiscite was a defining election issue for large swathes of the Australian population, but now the votes finally show Malcolm Turnbull & Co. will be leading the nation, the exact details on that massive vote are still sketchy.

Granted, parliament hasn’t yet resumed – hell, they’re still counting votes in the Senate, and the seat of Herbert in the House of Reps is heading to a recount – but you’d hope the leader of the nation would have some more solid info on what the vote would entail should the legislation pass.

Yet, on tonight’s edition of 7.30, the PM had a rough go of describing the deets of the plebiscite’s eventual arrival to host Leigh Sales.

After thrice dodging questions about the lessons learned from the Coalition’s dramatic popularity slump from September, the PM said they’d bring “legislation forward within the course of this year.

As to when it passes the parliament? Obviously that’ll be a member for the parliament…

We would like the plebiscite to be held as soon as is practicable. “
When asked about a timeframe for the plebiscite, Turnbull scoffed at Sales’ query as to how long it’d take to come to fruition. His assertion? That if it ain’t coming through this year, it’ll be done and dusted by early 2017.

Still, some aren’t so sure.
