WATCH: The New ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Trailer Is An A+ Cyberpunk Fever Dream

If (like me) you lived your teens in relative social isolation and consoled yourself by being a huge nerd, you’ll be equally as furious as me at the dearth of good cyberpunk movies.
For a genre that’s so well represented in books and comics and games, there’s barely any of it to be seen in live action cinema – we’ve basically got ‘Blade Runner‘, ‘Tetsuo: The Iron Man‘, ‘Avalon‘, ‘Johnny Mnemonic‘ (lol), ‘The Matrix‘ and, if you’re generous with your definition, ‘Pi‘.
Anime has probably given us the purest distillation of the grimy tech-dystopia that characterises the genre, particularly through ‘Akira‘ and ‘Ghost In The Shell‘ – and now we’re finally getting the heavenly treat of a live action adaptation of the former.
Judging from the latest trailer, it looks like it’s going to be 50% a shot-for-shot remake of the anime (which is awesome) and 50% a cyberpunk fever dream (also awesome). It’s in cinemas March 30th, but, for now, you can watch this gorgeous trailer:
