It’s the great cycle of outrage, folks. First comes the inciting incident. Then comes the backlash. Then comes the pisspoor official response. Then the anger reaches saturation point. Then comes the better but far too late apology. Then finally we get to the pisstaking.
That all takes place within about 24 hours. It’s a quick-moving thing, but you’ve gotta be quick on your feet in this work-a-day digital world.
Bless the speedy fools over at ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ then, who were not only able to slap together a coupla quick-fire gags about the whole United Airlines shitstorm – in which the airline oversold a flight and the sought “volunteers” to be bumped by sending storm-trooping cops onto the plane to bash a bloke until he relented – but present them with a handy, honest, and slick new advertising campaign.
Because, after all, sometimes it’s better to just steer into the skid.
“United Airlines. Fuck you.” Print that 10-feet high on every plane they own, IMO.
They’re a garbage airline, but they’re an airline. That’s kind of what they do best.
