VH1’s Anti-Bullying PSA Is A Little Off

Bullying is no joke, no matter what. The very real problem that has extremely real consequences has been gaining more and more momentum in the public eye as of late, thanks to efforts like the outstanding documentary Bully, which focuses on the effects that schoolyard bullying has on the lives of children and their families. But VH1 is taking a novel approach to delivering the anti-bullying message by producing a PSA that focuses on humour, rather than projecting the bleak seriousness that other campaigns have utilised.

The ad sends up various bullying situations in cartoonish circumstances, with the overlying theme of those who are bullied will wind up becoming the Bosses of tomorrow; a power-switching scenario that surely is universal, given the fact that everyone is clearly an overachieving nerd waiting for the day they can leave school and attain the success that’s coming to them, right?
The ad’s heart is in the right place, but perhaps its execution seems to have missed the mark as far as I’m concerned. But debate rages on. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
