University Of Melbourne Named #1 Aussie Uni, 5 More Break Global Top 100

It’s already a fairly huge day in news for universities of Australia, today, as the Turnbull government have dropped—or at the very least, postponed until 2017—another relic of the Abbott Government, with university fee deregulation being resigned to the archives

Adding to the pretty gr8 news of [having a greater chance of] affording a tertiary education in Australia, the annual and coveted Times Higher Education rankings have dropped today – with six Australian universities nestled in the pointy end, placing in the top 100.

Beyond that, six from eight of Australia’s highest-ranking universities have moved up the ladder since last year’s list – including the University of Sydney jumping 4 places ahead, University of Queensland advancing 5 places, Monash stepping up by 10, and the University of New South Wales advancing 27 places to crack the top 100.

Adding fuel to the Sydney vs Melbourne fire, the University of Melbourne remains almost 20 places ahead of local competition, ranking 33rd.

In terms of the global top five, the most feted universities in the world for 2015 are, in order: California Institute of Technology, University of Oxford, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. European universities are represented most in the list of 800, with 345 institutions taking up spots in this year’s ranks – quite possibly adding another incentive for young Australians to bail on us and conquer new frontiers.

Australia’s 10-highest ranked universities are as follows:

University Of Melbourne (33)
Australian National University: (52)

University of Sydney: (56)
University of Queensland: (60)
Monash University: (73)
University of NSW: (82)
University of Western Australia: (109)
University of Adelaide: (149)
University of Technology, Sydney (201-250)
Charles Darwin University (251-300)
