Uma Thurman’s Response To The Harvey Weinstein Scandal Will Give You Chills

It’s a tumultuous time in Hollywood, and the entertainment industry at large. With the disgrace of big-shot producer Harvey Weinstein after dozens of women came forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to rape, it appears the floodgates have well and truly been opened.

Hundreds of people have shared their stories of abuse and assault at the hands of older and more powerful industry players, and it seems like we might be witnessing a real culture shift – one that will hopefully allow us all to move away from an atmosphere of shame and silence about sexual violence, and towards one where everyone can stop being such ghastly arseholes to one another.

Of course, the other product of the current climate in Hollywood is that everyone’s getting asked their opinions on what’s going on, which seems like a difficult position to be in. Particularly if you’re a woman, and particularly if you’re a woman who’s worked on Harvey Weinstein productions and probably has a pretty clear idea of the kind of bloke he is.

Like, say, Uma Thurman.

Thurman has starred in a number of Weinstein-produced flicks, including Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, and from what we can gather from this clip of her being interviewed by Access Hollywood about the current situation, she has Some Feelings about the whole thing.

In fact, her incredibly restrained and cautiously-chosen response is probably the most powerful we’ve seen to date, thanks to her very careful use of the word “angry“.

It seems safe to say that, despite Thurman’s level tone, she is very angry. Very, very angry indeed.

I don’t have a tidy sound bite for you. Because, I have learned – I am not a child, and I have learned that when I’ve spoken in anger I usually regret the way I express myself.

So I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I am ready, I will say what I have to say.

Oof.

Obviously the response on Twitter has been huge, with hundreds of people sharing the video and resonating with Thurman’s barely-contained rage.

We’re looking forward to hearing what she has to say – when she’s ready.
