The low-grade nightmare that is life with Donald Trump as President of the United States just keeps on goin’, doesn’t it. As much as we don’t want to draw attention to the many, depressing failures of the leader of the free world, this one is pretty hard to ignore simply because of its egregious, bald-faced falseness: Trump is telling everyone that he boldly turned down the opportunity to be TIME magazine’s ‘Person of the Year‘ for the second year in a row.
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

Why he has done this is anyone’s guess. The bloke was awarded the honour last year after he won the election, and he is a noted fan of the magazine and its highest accolade – to the point where they actually had to ask him to please take down the fake ‘Person of the Year’ covers he’d had made up and displayed in his many golf courses and resorts.
Fake Time Magazine, cover, right, hung on Mar-a-Lago wall near entrance. @TB_Times @realDonaldTrump @TIMEMagUSA pic.twitter.com/xwMs6kisYH

But thanks to some unfathomable motivation, he’s decided to preempt the inevitable snub by saying he didn’t even want the award that they were definitely offering him anyway.
Completely unsurprisingly, exactly no-one is buying it.
That sound you hear is 60 million Americans yelling “Sure, Jan.”https://t.co/s9qLYyJgcB

i had a friend in 3rd grade who used to say he had special Star Wars figures that weren’t sold in stores. every time i asked him to bring them to school he always said he forgot them at home. https://t.co/FZ2GktqWPj

Trump really does have a girlfriend, and they’re getting pretty serious, but she lives in Niagra Falls, and he forgot to take a picture with her when he was there on vacation. https://t.co/kWjVCtKYWF

Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

Preach on, that also happened to me in 2006 but I had to wash my hair that day. pic.twitter.com/J7l21Qtg1d

And then there is the wave of fact-checking, perhaps the only good thing to come out of our current political climate of constant lies and falsehoods. The best of the “um, actually”s comes from TIME itself, and several of its current and former employees:

Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you’re NOT Person of the Year. They just wanted a photo shoot. But I’m sure you still have that fake TIME cover somewhere in storage. https://t.co/HkW1XkKxXK

Amazing. Not a speck of truth here—Trump tweets he ‘took a pass’ at being named TIME’s person of the year https://t.co/D6SJgyTpcY

The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.

Burn, Donald.
