TIME Deny They Gave Trump A Spiffy Set Of Devil Horns For Person Of The Year

In case you’ve somehow missed it, Donald J. Trump is TIME‘s Person of the Year.

And we, for one, are shocked: previous recipients of this title include Hitler, Putin and Stalin (twice), not to mention George W. Bush. It’s not a popularity contest, it’s the “person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year,” and as the man that’s put America on a sure-fire path to either Nazi-ism or nuclear war, Trump is certainly the winner.

Twitter users were quick to point out that TIME might have made a subtle dig at Trump, by positioning his head in front of the ‘M’ so that the peaks of the letter look remarkably similar to devil horns.

Within a matter of hours, however, TIME denied this was the case. It published a gallery of 35 people (including Margaret Thatcher, Hillary Clinton and Pope Francis) it had also accidentally given devil horns too, stressing that “any resemblance to cats, bats or devil horns is entirely coincidental.”

I guess we see what we want to see, and the people *really* want to see Trump as Beezlebub himself.

As the time of publishing, however, TIME has made no such denials about the strong Hitler vibes in his cover, which almost appears to be paying homage to the Führer.

Side by side, here’s Trump’s cover next to Hitler’s April 14, 1941 cover – not, it should be noted, his ‘Person of the Year’ cover. Just a dismal day in April 1941, just one month after the Blitz on London that killed some 30,000 people came to an end.

This is what you get when you appoint an actual white supremacist as chief strategist, I suppose.
