There’s Mounting Speculation Trump Is Also Wasting His Time On Reddit

U.S. President Donald Trump has been labelled many things during his tumultuous tenure in the top job, but good God, there’s now a growing belief that the man may actually be an undercover Reddit lurker.

It’s okay. You can take a moment.

This morning, Trump retweeted an old post from longtime nemesis Rosie O’Donnell, in which she called for FBI Director James Comey to be fired.

The original message was posted after Comey’s questionable handling of the Hillary Clinton email scandal, but after Trump booted the director for an entirely different set of reasons, the retweet served as a retrospective put-down of a staunch opponent.

We’re left with two realistic possibilities as to why the President of the United States of America chose to badmouth his least-favourite sitcom star, and neither of them are great. Either he or someone on his team has an encyclopaedic memory for every perceived slight against him… or they were monitoring the Donald-centric subreddit.

Buzzfeed’s Brandon Wall posits that the O’Donnell tweet was actually shared to /r/The_Donald less than an hour before Trump’s tweet, with user /u/Matterak telling the forum’s rabid userbase “these people act like act like the internet forgets. It doesn’t.”
One commenter on that post asks /u/Matterak “how does it feel to know that you had a big hand in getting Rosie O’Donnell BTFO?” Even the subreddit is claiming responsibility for this one, and Politico reporter Ben Schreckinger has taken notice.

Earlier this year, Schreckinger directly asked the Trump campaign if they were active on the site. They said they definitely weren’t. The latest tweet has Schreckinger perplexed, to say the least.

Honestly, considering his predilection for Twitter and his previous AMA on the platform, it’s not such a reach to imagine Trump getting shirty about posts on his cheerleading subreddit. Watch this space for more shitposts from POTUS.
