Booted FBI Chief’s Memos Reveal Trump Asked To Call Off An Investigation

James Comey, the former FBI director fired by U.S. President Donald Trump last week, kept memos revealing Trump asked him to end the investigation into then-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

Comey’s memos detail a conversation that took place between him and Trump, in which the POTUS said Flynn had done nothing wrong, and that he “is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”
Weeks after that conversation, Flynn resigned from his post, after it was revealed he fibbed to Vice President Mike Pence about the context of his communications with Russian officials.

The memo represents a clear-as-day implication that Trump was actively trying to quash investigations into the Russia scandal, well before he fired Comey due to his continuing investigation into “this Russia thing.”

The White House has denied the account detailed by the memos, saying “this is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey.”
After Comey was fired, Trump shot out some somewhat threatening texts, insinuating that he’d get back at the former Bureau chief should compromising information make its way to the press.

Comey’s memos note Trump’s paranoia extended back to the point of their conversation regarding Flynn. According to a Comey associate familiar with the memos, Trump also said Comey should seriously think about throwing journos in prison should they publish confidential information.

It’s worth noting The New York Times, who broke the story, states an FBI director’s memos have traditionally been treated as legally bulletproof. They also weren’t shared widely within the FBI, for fears Trump’s conversation would influence the investigation into Flynn.

What a world.
