The Hallway By Miranda July

Whether it’s smutty yet cerebral short stories, bewitching indie flicks or her freakin’ hilarious website, Renaissance Woman Miranda July has a knack for imbuing quirky details and unbridled whimsy into her work. It’s not all roses however – she can be cynical as shit too.

The below video taken from 2008’s Yokohama Triennale showcases that sentiment exactly. Titled “The Hallway”, July’s installation is a 125 foot hallway with English placards in one direction and Japanese in the other. It’s actually pretty indicative of July’s worldview, a place where lowbrow humour and existential crisis are but a few steps away.
