‘Straya, Say Hello To Your New Overlord & Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock (or upset that Q&A randomly wasn’t on the right ABC channel), you probably would have noticed that there’s been some hekkers political rustling today. 

Firstly, Malcolm Turnbull shirtfronted Tony Abbott, and challenged his leadership to initiate the second major #libspill of 2015. Libspill 2.0, if you will. 

Then, in a shock twist, Julie Bishop said that she was totally siding with Turnbull. 

Then, the internet realised that they were running late to meme the absolute fuck out of our governing overlords, and hit us with fab #libspill memes, and also the incredible hashtag, #PutOutYourOnions.

And now; after a half an hour deliberation, it has been announced that: 

Out of 100 MPs that voted in the ballot, Turnbull won 54 votes to Abbott’s 44 – which mean that Turnbull becomes the new leader of the Liberal Party of Australia, and the new Prime Minister of Australia. 

Julie Bishop edged out Kevin Andrews by miles for the role of Turnbull’s deputy, winning 70 votes to Andrews’ 30.

Also, if you’re in Sydney, there is a party happening right now to celebrate the ousting of Tony Abbott. Seriously.
