A suspected petrol bomb exploded in a car outside Thornlie mosque in Perth last night during prayers, and graffiti reading ‘FUCK ISLAM’ was scrawled on a nearby wall.
Nobody was injured, and the attack is now being investigated by police. Thornlie Mosque & Australian Islamic College representative Yahya Adel Ibrahim posted to Facebook to confirm the attack, and said the community would not start “playing blame games” or “singling out groups” for the attack.
“This undoubtedly is a criminal act of hate,” he wrote, “but it is the act of a person or group not the greater whole.”
Local member Chris Tallentire posted on Facebook that this was an “attack on all of us”. “Muslim community of Thornlie, I feel sick that you have to endure attacks like this.”
Police are investigating the matter.
