Events Across Australia Where You Can Show Your Support For The Muslim Community

One of the most direct ways you can do something positive in the wake of the terror attack in Christchurch is to show your support for your local Muslim community. Following the attack, a number of mosques and community centres across the country are holding vigils, open days, and gatherings, we’ve tried to gather as many as we can, please let us know in the comments or via email we’ve missed any.

NSW

University of Sydney, Sydney

When: Friday, March 22, 5pm – 7pm

Where: Eastern Avenue, USyd

Sydney University Red Cross Society and Ahmadiyya Muslim Students Association will be holding a vigil in solidarity with the victims of Christchurch. Facebook event here.

United Muslims of Australia Centre, Padstow

When: Saturday, March 23, 10am – 2pm

Where: UMA Centre, 19 Enterprise Avenue, Padstow 2211

United Muslims of Australia will be holding an open day with educational sessions, a free BBQ, a jumping castle and face painting for the kids, and more. You can find details here.

When: Saturday, March 23, 12:30pm – 1:30pm

Masjid As-Sunnah, Brisbane

Masjid As-Sunnah in Lutwyche will be holding an open day for non-Muslims, including a barbecue. You can find more details here.

Rockhampton Mosque, Rockhampton

When: Friday, March 22, 6:45pm – 7:45pm

If your local community is not represented in the list, be sure to keep an eye out for future events, such as National Mosque Open Day in October. Some mosques, such as Holland Park Mosque in Brisbane, hold community dinners during Ramadan, which are open to everyone.
