SNL Creates The Ultimate Wes Anderson Horror Film Spoof Ft. Edward Norton As Owen Wilson

Just in time for Halloween, and off the hype of Wes Anderson’s trailer drop of his upcoming Grand Budapest Hotel (still laughing forever at Ralph Fiennes sprinting away from a self-proclaimed murder conspiracy) Saturday Night Live have lent their talents to creating a trailer for the appropriately convoluted, twee-titled The Midnight Coterie Of Sinister Intruders, aka the Wes Anderson-styled horror film that definitely won’t ever happen, but most definitely should.

Hosted by Moonrise Kingdom‘s stellar Edward Norton, this weekend’s Saturday Night Live took to parodying the auteur-ship that is inherently a parody waiting to happen, with the greatest Wes Anderson spoof and film idea that we would legitimately watch with unashamed gusto. Let’s introduce the characters, first off, with the ingenious addition of Edward Norton taking on Wes Anderson stalwart Owen Wilson, his unmistakably twangy accent and suitable corduroy ensemble. Also I’m pretty sure that is actually Jason Schwartzman.

There’s a bunch of essential Wes proclivities that SNL have gotten crazy spot on: the soothing omniscient narration of Alec Baldwin, dead pan siblings with a slew of weapons up their sleeve (a picture of Edith Piaf, a Swiss army knife), the frame-within-a-frame window shot, bold yellow futura, binoculars, over the head shots of letter writing, an immaculately quaint household. The only major qualm I can call this work of near-flawlessness out in is the absence of Bill fucking Murray which literally makes no sense.

As the New York Times‘ fake review puts it, “You had me at Wes Anderson”.
