In fact, organisers have claimed that over 20,000 of us showed up to the “NSW is Burning, Sydney is Choking” Climate Emergency rally in Sydney today. Hosted by the Uni Students for Climate Justice, Greens MLC David Shoebridge and Extinction Rebellion, the rally demanded much-needed funding for fire services and action to address the toxic smoke. Above all else, though, we all placed pressure on the government to wake the fuck up – marching through the smoke, from Town Hall to Hyde Park, we showed a tenacity that is sure to make ScoMo sweat.
