Scientists Nervous ‘Finding Dory’ Will Endanger Dory AKA The Blue Tang Fish

When ‘Finding Nemo’ came out, there was an immediate global surge in purchases of clown fish. Every kid wanted their own little Nemo
Now, marine biologists are pretty concerned about the imminent release of ‘Finding Dory’ for the same reason.
Dory is a blue tang fish, and they are already fighting to stay alive in the elements, due to the fact they live in coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean which are easily and commonly destroyed by fishing technique.
While clown fish like Nemo are relatively easy to breed in captivity, blue tang fish are not. According to the marine science magazine Hakai:
“As Dory graduates from sidekick to leading lady, the lack of a captive-bred option will drive collectors to source more blue tangs from the wild—a harvest that’s often unregulated and destructive.”
A group of scientists have apparently been trying to make breeding of the blue tang fish viable before the release of the movie, but have not succeeded.
So, tell your child ‘NO’. Dory wants to chill in the ocean. She likes it there.

‘Finding Dory’ comes out June 17.
