Schapelle Corby’s Coming Home & May Have A Gig At Her Sister’s Tapas Bar

And now, for some non election-related news!

Mercedes Corby
, sister of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby, has broken the family’s usual MO of keeping mum about Schapelle’s movements and told local media that her sister is coming come, possibly as early as next August.

“We’re not 100 per cent sure when she’s coming back but it’ll be before August, hopefully,” she told the Gold Coast Bulletin. “I speak to her every day. Yeah, she’s doing well.”

Schapelle was convicted in 2005 for importing 4.2kg of cannabis into Bali. She served nine years behind bars before being released in 2014, with the conditions of her parole meaning she can’t leave the country till mid-2017.

Meanwhile Mercedes – who lived in Bali throughout Schapelle’s stay – recently opened a tapas bar in Coolangatta.

Her children Wayan, 17, and Nyeleigh, 15, are already working at the place, which has apparently become quite the “family business”.

So will locals find Schapelle mixing drinks at Laneway Bar and Dining late next year?

“She will come and sit here and drink beer, probably,” Mercedes said. “No, we don’t really talk about that stuff. We’ll wait to see what happens.”

The answer is: yes. Obviously.
