Reasons To Study Politics: Obama Has Already Seen ‘Game Of Thrones’ S6

In an interview at the premiere, ‘Game of Thrones‘ showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said that one person outside of HBO, and one person only, has been permitted to see advanced screenings of the sixth season.

That person is POTUS, President Barack Obama
The interviewer, Veronica Belmont, asked them what their “a-ha” moment was, when they realised exactly how big the show was:
“Have you had any major aha moments — like ‘Oh my god we totally made it’ — now that you’ve come into season six and the show is just so incredibly big and popular?”
Weiss: “I think, for both of us, finding out the President wanted advanced copies of the episodes was an ‘aha’ moment. That was a very strange moment. He’s the leader of the free world.”

Benioff: “When the commander-in-chief says ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?”

Obama’s special treatment in the land of Westeros has been mentioned before, by actor Liam Cunningham:

“Did you know he gets advance copies? POTUS. He gets DVD copies before we do. And we’re in it!”
He loves the damn show so much, he’s even referenced it (well, his ‘anger translator’ Luther – played by Keegan-Michael Key – did) in his address at the White House Correspondents Dinner
Such a cheeky leader of the free world. Cheeky, cheeky, cheeky.
