Ferris Wheel

In a ginormous win/win, Mix 102.3 host Mark Soderstrom has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest fairground ride ever and raised over $200,000 for the Flinders Foundation with co-host Jodie Oddy.

Jodie and Soda, as they’re known as, raised more than $225,000 for a new Cancer Wellness Centre in South Australia. Not to mention, Soda spent 52 hours awake on the ferris wheel at Adelaide‘s The Garden of Unearthly Delights to break the world record.

According to Guinness World Records, a man in Finland set the record of longest marathon on a fairground/theme park attraction at an easy 51 hours in 2018.

The Cancer Wellness Centre was Kerry’s Final Wish, Jodie and Soda shared.

Kerry Brigs died in 2016 after a battle with breast cancer. She had always wanted a place where cancer patients and their families could find support and now, thanks to Jodie and Soda, her wish will come true.

Soda is a patron of the Flinders Foundation, an organisation dedicated to supporting leading clinicians and researchers across the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University to prevent, cure, and care.

“HE DID IT!” the radio station announced on Instagram earlier today. Soda is a Guinness World Record holder! He’s just stepped off the ferris wheel after riding it for 52 hours with no sleep to raise $200,000 for Kerry’s Final Wish!!”

What an absolute trooper.

Jodie was supposed to join Soda on the wheel for the whole trip but was forced to pull out due to some extreme motion sickness.

“Probably the hardest part was losing Jodie six hours in because she was pretty crook,” Soda told Adelaide Now

“I’m not overly tired — the adrenaline really kicked in this morning just before 9am when West End kicked in with the community fund of $40,000 which took us over the $200,000 target — which means Kerry’s final wish gets to be realised.”

Watch the moment West End Community Fund‘s Jason Bailey told Soda they’d be donating $40,000. Kerry’s husband David Briggs was only metres away on the ground when he heard the news.
