Queensland Government Pushes To Outlaw All Puppy Farms In State

Queensland’s Palaszczuk Government is pushing for one of their election promises to make positive strides, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, as it furthers its campaign to outlaw all puppy farms in the State.

Although Labor made the ruling an election promise, and recommitted to the ruling after being elected, a further “public consultation” period is being utilised to gauge consultation and opinions from locals on the issue.

Now we are in government we are ready to go, but I want the public to have their say,” Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said today. “It is important that we get the consultation right, to make sure that we iron out any issues and we are taking out.”

The survey on shuttering cruel puppy farms and safeguarding the well-being of dogs can be completed over here. After the public survey has been completed, Labor’s proposal – having all puppy farms with over 20 dogs register with the State Government – could be enforced from next year, provided the bill passes both cabinet and Parliament.

Queensland’s proposed tightening of puppy farm laws follows similar steps taken by NSW’s Baird Government, who fast-tracked regulation on puppy farming in the State in April this year.
