Purple Anthology

“Art Prose Fashion Music Architecture Sex”. So reads the cover of “Purple Anthology” a hefty retrospective on the ever inventive and stylistically influential fashion bible “Purple” (a personal favourite of the Pedestrian offices). For those of you who don’t know, this French publication co-founded by Olivier Zahm and Elein Fleiss covers all aspects of popular culture (as previously stated: art, prose, fashion, music and architecture) and dips it in a molten vat of you guessed it, sex. What separates this style anthology however, from the glorified paper weights gathering dust on the coffee tables of fashion forward yupsters around Surry Hills is the talent showcased in it. From photographer Terry Richardson (whose style very much characterizes the “Purple” aesthetic), to Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and the ubiquitous Kate Moss these guys make owning your own publication look pretty damn rewarding. Plus Oliver Zahm has way too much fun for someone who is meant to be slaving away over a magazine…
