Four Police Officers Dead After Horror Collision On Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway

Four police officers have died following a horrific collision on a Melbourne freeway.

The crash took place on the Eastern Freeway in Kew, near the Burke Road exit, at around 5.40PM.

According to Victoria Police commissioner Graham Ashton, a truck ran into the officers, who had pulled over a speeding Porsche. The driver of the Porsche then allegedly fled the scene.

“Four on-duty police officers have been killed in a vehicle collision in Kew tonight,” Victoria Police later confirmed. “The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are still to be determined.”

“Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are currently at the scene and are investigating.”

“A male truck driver has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The Police Association also released a heartfelt statement, expressing their sadness and emphasising the day-to-day risks police officers take in order to protect the community.

“This is a brutally sad reminder of the danger police face in the course of their service, every minute of every shift. We mourn their loss, we grieve with their families and colleagues and we will never forget them.”

Investigations are underway.
