Police Foil Alleged Mass Shooting Plot At Pokémon World Championship

In news that is simultaneously a huge relief and hugely upsetting, Boston police say that they foiled a planned mass-shooting this past weekend at the
Pokémon World Championship.
Two men were arrested this past Friday, and charged with offences relating to unlawful possession of firearms, after reports were made about threats to attendees on social media.
Kevin Norton, 18, and James Stumbo, 27, drove to the convention from Iowa, but were stopped by police on arriving; they were unable to provide licenses for carry firearms, and were released pending a search warrant.
Per a Boston Police press release, a search was later carried on the vehicle, turning up:
“one 12-gauge Remington shotgun, one DPM5 Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife.”
Norton and Stumbo were subsequently arrested at their hotel, and the officers involved have been commended for doing “a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy.”
Last week, America’s largest cinema chain announced that a bag check policy would be put in place as a security measure, following a fatal shooting at a Louisiana screening of Trainwreck earlier this year.
