Perth Man Who Surfed Whale Carcass Concedes “It Was Stupid”

A Perth man who thought it might be a chill situation to board a whale carcass that had been festering in shark infested waters off the coast of Western Australia for several weeks has conceded that perhaps it was “a stupid idea” – one that he probably won’t have again.
Twenty-six-year-old Hayden Williams made headlines over the weekend after a Channel Seven helicopter capturing the piecemeal disintegration of the humpback whale for posterity’s sake also began documenting the adventures of Western Australia’s most YOLO denizen as he made his way from one marine vessel to another all in the name of lols w/ m8s.
As Williams tells it [via Seven News]:
I was out on the boat with the boys and one of my mates said it would be pretty funny to surf the whale so I did it. At first I couldn’t get a grip and I ended up using my chin to drag myself up. [The sharks, including a great white] were too busy chomping on the whale so it wasn’t too bad.
It was only once he boarded the bloated, putrescent corpse using his chin that he realised he had, in fact, done fucked up.
Definitely not [wouldn’t do it again] I’ve done it, I don’t need to do it again. Definitely it was a stupid act. Didn’t mean to disrespect anyone. Mum thinks I’m an idiot; Dad’s not too proud either.
Williams himself has told The Daily Mail his initial impulse was to help the clearly-beyond-help whale using his chin, because “Basically the whale looked in distress and I tried to help it. But clearly I was too late.”
News.com.au are also reporting this morning that Williams won’t be fined because the whale was already dead, he left only chin and footprints, and took only memories.
