People Reckon The USA McDonald’s Minions Are Saying ‘What The Fuck’

McDonald’s latest Happy Meal toy has either backfired horribly, or become their greatest marketing success since those early 90s computer games.

According to concerned parents and amused citizens of the internet, the toy Minions McDonalds are currently stocking their happy meals with are going rogue and saying “What the fuck.” Consumers have been filming the offending soundbite and the case is now being tried in the court of public opinion:

I’m sure the minion toys in the happy meals are saying “what the fuck!!” #minions #whatthefuck #WTF

That’s supposed to be “Minionese” they’re speaking, which is about as real as “Simlish” – a.k.a. not at all. Best guess: someone was either having a really bad day when they recorded the Minionese soundbites, or was so deep into their Minion character they simply didn’t notice.

McDonald’s, for their part, insist it’s all a misunderstanding.

QZ published an emailed statement from the chain, which said:

“The Minion Caveman Happy Meal toy includes three sounds: “para la bukay,” “hahaha,” and “eh eh.”

“We’re aware of a very small number of customers who have been in touch regarding this toy, and we regret any confusion or offence to those who may have misinterpreted its sounds. The allegation that this toy is saying anything offensive or profane is not true.”
